Wildfire Prep Day 2016

Thanks to a grant from State Farm and NFPA, we held our first Wildfire Preparedness Day on May 7, 2016. We focused on raising awareness of the wildfire hazard here in Logan County with our rural residents, and will be staffing an information booth and equipment display at the local Tractor Supply Company. Thanks to the grant and help from our friends at Oho DNR, we provided educational materials to adults and kids as we work to spread the message about wildfire risk and appropriate mitigation measures for residents of rural areas in the county.

Myeerah Nature Preserve Prescribed Fire

Working with our partners at the Bellefontaine Joint Recreation District, Pheasants Forever, and the US Fish & Wildlife Service, we have developed a prescribed burning project at the 450-acre Myeerah Nature Preserve. Burn compartments have been established for prairie and oak savanna restoration, with several planned to burn each spring. In addition to our habitat management objectives, these burns are also a public education tool about fire behavior in fine fuels and the use of prescribed fire as a fuels management tool.
