Bill McLaughlin is the chief of the Ketchum Fire Department in Ketchum Idaho. He is also an instructor for the National Fire Academy and the NFPA. Previously he was the chief of the Elk Creek Fire District in Conifer Colorado for 7 years. During that time, he developed a comprehensive community fire mitigation and education program. The program included parcel level risk assessment, fuel treatment prioritization, a free community chipping program and the establishment of the Elk Creek Fuel Module. He was instrumental in moving the adoption of fire resistant building codes in Jefferson County Colorado forward, and served on the leadership team for the Upper South Platte Partnership.
Bill McLaughlin also developed the Introduction to Wildfire Evacuations class for the National Fire Academy. He regularly presents on that topic as well as adoption of WUI codes and standards.
Bill has over 30 years in WUI leadership and fire response all over the western united states.
