Grand Fire/GCWFC Mitigation Engine

Utilizing available county fire district staff to assist with mitigation and prescribed burn efforts. County Firefighters gain valuable experience with saw work, mitigation and defensible space preparation, while the fire district and wildfire council help complete priority projects. Projects are often projects that have gone undone due to multiple property owners, financial difficulties, or jurisdictional issues.

Grand County Wildfire Council Chipping Program

An effort to encourage defensible space creation and maintenance by offering 4 free chipping days each summer. Residents can bring any amount of slash, trimmings, or trees to various locations during the summer to have them chipped and disposed of for free. Chips are delivered to the local sanitation district that then mixes them with their end bio-product creating a fertilizing mulch that residents can pick up and us for their landscaping.
