Chester Public Utility District and Fire Department is a combination Fire Department in North East California. We have 5 square miles in our area of service. We are situated in a Valley at the base of Mount Lassen and the shores of Lake Almanor. We are completely surrounded by wildlands.
Our primary objective is to provide fire protection for the town of Chester. We also run the ambulance service for the area.
Our secondary objective is to provide Fire Safety and Fire Prevention materials and classes to the people in our area of service. We interact with the local schools, churches businesses and civic organizations to provide these messages.
Our third objective is to become a Firewise Community (2018) and then extend that work into other fire adapted communities efforts.
Next month we will be conducting our Firewise Community Assessment and then the committee will start the paperwork to submit. We will then prepare for our Firewise community kickoff. We are going to have two community meetings to orient our community about Firewise and let them know what our first project will be. We are going to offer free Wildfire Home Ignition Assessments. Hopefully the homeowners will take the assessments and make improvements to their properties to help prevent loss in case of wildland fire.
Wildfire Risk Reduction in the areas surrounding Chester
Work with the various land owners of the lands around Chester to reduce the threat of wildland fire. This could include prescribed burning, reduction of fuels by trimming and thinning, or removing or thinning (mowing) meadow grasses and brush.
