The Del Norte FireSafe Council, founded in 2002, is organized to provide education, exchange information, and foster fire prevention and fire safety within the county of Del Norte, California. Since its inception, the Del Norte FireSafe Council has implemented several projects, including fuels reduction, fire protection, and community fire safety education; and through a partnership with Green Diamond Resource Company and CalFire, the Council also provides staffing to the Red Mountain Fire Lookout.
County Wide Preparedness Plan
The Del Norte County Wide Preparedness Plan project was collaboratively developed with leadership from the Del Norte FSC. It identifies and prioritizes areas for hazardous fuel reduction treatments and recommends measures to reduce the ignitability of structures throughout Del Norte County.
Chipper and Equipment Trailer Project
The Council's ongoing Chipper and Equipment Trailer Program assists private and public landowners with fuels reduction projects, creating and maintaining defensible space and strategically-located fuel breaks around communities that are at high risk of being threatened by wildfire.
Water Storage Tank Projects
Over the last eighteen years, the Del Norte FireSafe Council has successfully coordinated three large-scale Water Storage Tank Installation Projects, with the total number of tanks installed totaling fifty-five to date. The Council continues to service and maintain these tanks on an annual basis.
