I am the Napu’u Natural Resource Management Area Fire Prevention Associate located at Pu’uwa’awa’a Forest Reserve on Hawai’i Island. I work with the local community to become Firewise Certified, to hold volunteer days for maintenance of fire breaks and green breaks, do educational outreach and bridging between organizations, work with grazing leasees, and with the Hawai’i Division of Forestry and Wildlife on projects that make the Pu’uwa’awa’a Forest Reserve more resilient to fire.
I am familiar with wildfire in the WUI as I originally come from northeastern Nevada but am new to the ecosystems and communities of Hawai’i that over the last two years I have come to cherish. I would like to learn any strategies or information that help me help them be protected from wildland fires.
