The Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory is a US Department of Energy Science Laboratory campus, operated by the University of California. Our site encompasses over 150 acres and 100 buildings of cutting-edge science, in the wildland-urban interface zone adjacent to the Berkeley and Oakland hills, in the East Bay region of the San Francisco Bay Area.

We are active participants in the Hills Emergency Forum (HEF), an East-Bay coalition chartered after the Oakland Hills Fire of 1991. Along with the HEF, active Wildland fire mitigation efforts are continuous and ongoing in our region.
