Mike Maltaverne spent 27 years with the Rapid City Fire Department (South Dakota) with the last 7 as Fire Chief. During that time, Rapid City created programs such as a City/County Type III IMT, Community Risk Reduction program, WUI Survivable Space Initiative and the Veterans Wildfire Mitigation Crew (funded by the BLM) and participated in the IAFC’s first Fire Department Exchange (FDX) to create in person and online exchange platforms for departments facing WUI challenges . In 2016, he retired from Rapid City and became the Deputy Chief of Operations for the Bozeman, MT. Fire Department. In 2017, He was selected as and still serves as a member of the IAFC’s Wildfire Policy Committee in 2017. Mike has a B.S. degree from Grand Canyon University and is a graduate of the National Fire Academy’s Executive Fire Officer program.
