The Prescott Area Wildland Urban Interface Commission (PAWUIC), otherwise known as Yava Pai Firewise, which has worked for over 25 years to lead the Prescott, AZ area and Yavapai County to become Firewise. Jim Buchanan manages this profile and is a member and currently Vice-Chairman of PAWUIC.

As an individual, my wife and I own 18 acres adjacent to National Forest and designated Wilderness upon which we have worked for years to reduce fuels and become firewise. We experienced the Doce Fire in 2013 which burned onto our property but due to fuels reduction and heroic efforts of firefighters they were able to stop the fire’s progress and save our buildings and adjacent neighborhood homes. I am also the coordinator of forming a firewise community in our neighborhood where last year we were able to treat over 80 acres of area.
