I am the watershed coordinator for the Coalition for the Poudre River Watershed, based in Fort Collins, CO. I work primarily in the upper Cache la Poudre Watershed of Northern Colorado, and head up our forest resiliency and wildfire mitigation projects. The upper watershed is 600,000+ acres, so we work with partners and our recently completed watershed resiliency plan to help identify the highest priority areas of the watershed for landscape scale forest health treatments.
Because of the 2012 High Park Fire, interest in this type of work including how we can become more fire adapted has become a very popular topic within the community. With this in mind we are also actively engaged in community outreach around identifying barriers to implementation, land owner concerns and increasing the scale and pace of prescribed fire as a management tool for larger (and cheaper!) treatments. We are fortunate to have active, engaged stakeholders and partners in our area. Because of this, we have been working to build momentum and additional partnerships to achieve our mission of improving and maintaining the ecological health of the Poudre River watershed through community collaboration.
