As the Fire Education Outreach Coordinator for Travis County Fire Marshal’s Office, I engage community members daily about fire safety issues and much of the time it involves the potential for wildfire in our region. I am a Prescribed Burn team member for the county and I use the first-hand experience and knowledge gained from that activity to explain wildfire science through videography and photos of fire behavior. I have also been a leader on the team that developed, planned and conducted the first wildfire evacuation drill in the state of Texas for a community that I have been working with since 2012. I serve as the chair of the Austin Travis County Wildfire Coalition outreach working group and the Capital Area (10 counties) Council of Governments wildfire protection working group. Prior to working for the Fire Marshal, I served as Wildfire Specialist for Lake Travis Fire Rescue and as a Wildland Urban Interface Specialist with the Texas A&M Forest Service. I began wildland fire fighting in 2007 in Central Oregon.
