Community wildfire protection plans (CWPPs) are an important tool for strengthening large scale community resilience to the impacts of wildfire. When communities are brought into the process, partnerships and relationships (the very foundation of resilience) are forged and strengthened. A CWPP process that is as representative of and informed by your community as possible can lead to other wildfire mitigation and adaptation work–growing the base of informed residents, expanding volunteer rosters and identifying community needs and priorities to guide future actions.

This guide walks through “planning,” “doing,” and “maintaining” as steps to develop an inclusive community engagement plan for CWPPs, and includes a toolbox of resources to support the process.
